Spray Foam

PTU SPF Series — Spray-Applied PUR Foam Systems

PTU supplies formulated spray polyurethane foam (SPF) chemical systems used by trained applicators and insulation contractors to apply insulation directly onto the building surface.

The two-component liquid system is sprayed onto the substrate, where it reacts and expands to form a polyurethane foam layer. Depending on the formulation, the resulting foam can provide thermal insulation, air sealing and, in suitable applications, contribute to moisture management and acoustic performance.

PTU SPF systems are available in closed-cell (CC) and open-cell (OC) formulations, with each designed for different performance requirements and applications.

PTU CC SPF systems are primarily designed for thermal insulation applications where low thermal conductivity, air sealing and moisture resistance are required.

PTU OC SPF systems are designed for applications where a more flexible, lightweight and vapour-permeable foam is preferred, and can contribute to thermal insulation, air sealing and sound absorption when incorporated into a suitably designed building assembly.

Product Features

Thermal Insulation Performance

PTU SPF systems can provide effective thermal insulation, with performance dependent on foam type, density, thickness and application. Closed-cell systems can provide particularly low thermal conductivity and high insulation performance per unit thickness.

Air Sealing and Building Envelope Performance

When correctly applied to suitable substrates, spray polyurethane foam can form a continuous insulation layer that helps reduce uncontrolled air leakage through gaps, joints and irregular surfaces.

Moisture Management

Closed-cell SPF provides a relatively high resistance to water vapour and moisture penetration. Open-cell SPF is more vapour-permeable, allowing moisture vapour to pass through the foam more readily. The appropriate system should therefore be selected according to the building design and local climate conditions.

Acoustic Contribution

Open-cell SPF can contribute to sound absorption and noise control as part of a suitably designed wall, roof or ceiling assembly. Overall acoustic performance depends on the complete construction and installation.

Considered Blowing-Agent Technology

PTU selects blowing-agent technologies appropriate to the application and regulatory requirements. Selected closed-cell SPF systems can use blowing agents with low global warming potential (GWP), while PTU open-cell systems are always formulated using water as the sole blowing agent.

Versatile Application

Spray foam can be applied to a wide range of suitable substrates, including wood, metal and concrete, and can conform to irregular surfaces and difficult-to-reach areas. Application can be carried out in walls, roofs, ceilings and other areas where a continuous, site-applied insulation layer is required, subject to appropriate substrate and processing conditions.
