PTU FM series; MDI-Based Moulded Flexible Foam Systems
PTU supplies formulated MDI-based moulded flexible polyurethane (PU) foam systems used by furniture manufacturers to produce cushioning components for applications including ergonomic office chairs, auditorium seating and other upholstered furniture.
PTU foam systems can be formulated to provide a balance of initial softness, progressive support, resilience and durability, helping manufacturers achieve the comfort and performance characteristics required for specific seating designs.
Formulations can be developed to suit different densities, hardness levels, mould designs and production processes, allowing the finished foam component to be matched to the requirements of the application.

Progressive Support and Comfort
The support factor, sometimes referred to as the SAG factor or Comfort Index, is commonly expressed as the ratio of indentation hardness at 65% compression to indentation hardness at 25% compression:
Support Factor = 65% IFD ÷ 25% IFD
A higher support factor generally indicates a foam that becomes progressively firmer as it is compressed, which can contribute to a supportive seating feel. PTU MDI-based moulded flexible foam formulations always achieve support factors above 3.0.
Low-Emission Formulation Options
PTU can develop formulations using catalyst and additive technologies selected to help reduce emissions, where required. Finished foam emissions depend on the complete formulation, processing conditions and post-cure, and can be evaluated against applicable customer or regulatory requirements.
Customised Density and Firmness
Formulations can be tailored to achieve specific density, hardness, resilience and support characteristics to suit different seating designs and user requirements.
Efficient Production
PTU systems can be formulated with controlled reaction and cure profiles to suit moulding equipment and production requirements, supporting consistent foam quality and efficient demoulding in series production.
