Protective Packaging
PTU MDI-Based Energy-Absorbing Foam Systems
PTU supplies formulated MDI-based open-cell polyurethane (PU) foam systems used to produce protective packaging for electronics, medical equipment and other fragile or sensitive products.
The foam system can be processed in situ, expanding around or within a protective packaging bag to form a lightweight, custom-shaped cushion around the product. This enables the packaging to conform closely to the shape of the item and provide energy absorption during handling and transportation.
PTU protective packaging systems can be processed using two-component foam dispensing equipment or supplied in pre-weighed packs for controlled manual mixing, depending on the application and production requirements.
Product Features
Energy Absorption and Impact Protection
The open-cell foam structure can absorb and dissipate impact energy, helping protect sensitive products during handling and transportation. Protection performance depends on the foam formulation, density, packaging design and the requirements of the specific application.
Lightweight Protective Packaging
In-situ foam packaging can provide effective cushioning with relatively low material weight, supporting efficient product protection and transport.
Custom-Fit Protection
Foam expansion around the product can create a close-fitting protective cushion, helping to reduce movement within the package and accommodate products with irregular shapes.
Material Efficiency
In-situ foaming allows the quantity of chemical system to be matched to the size and protection requirements of the packaged product, which can help optimise material consumption and reduce unnecessary packaging material.
Flexible Processing Options
PTU systems can be processed using suitable two-component dispensing equipment or supplied in pre-weighed packs for manual mixing, providing flexibility for different production volumes and packaging operations.
Water-Blown Formulation
PTU energy-absorbing protective packaging systems are formulated using water as the sole blowing agent, avoiding the use of additional chemical blowing agents in the foam expansion process.
